Oakley and Meta have brought the Vanguard, their performance AI glasses, to India at ₹52,300. It is built for runners and cyclists rather than for everyday wear, and it is already on sale through optical chains.
Oakley and Meta have launched the Vanguard in India, and the first thing to know is that this is a sports product first and a smart gadget second. It starts at ₹52,300 and is sold across the country through optical chains such as Sunglass Hut and LensCrafters, in four combinations: black or white frames with PRIZM 24K, PRIZM Black, PRIZM Road or PRIZM Sapphire lenses. Digit, which covered the launch, says the glasses are aimed at serious athletes and fitness enthusiasts, and the spec sheet backs that up.
A 12MP camera sits in the centre of the frame and shoots video up to 3K, so the footage is framed the way you actually see the road. Upgraded open-ear speakers and a five-microphone array handle music, calls and voice commands without covering your ears, which matters on a busy morning route. The wraparound frame uses Oakley's three-point fit with swappable nose pads and works with helmets and caps, and the IP67 rating makes it the most water and dust resistant pair Oakley and Meta have made so far. Anyone who rides in monsoon spray or on a dusty highway shoulder will care about that more than the camera.
Battery is rated at up to nine hours, stretching to around 36 hours with the charging case and fast charging. Treat nine hours as the best case. The reviews we summarised on the deal page note that long stretches of 3K recording drain the battery much faster, so a long ride with the camera running may not last the rated time.
The India-specific details are decent. Meta AI understands Hindi, Telugu and Kannada, and there is a celebrity voice option inspired by Deepika Padukone. Garmin and Strava integration, which would put live stats and automatic workout highlights on the glasses, and UPI Lite payments by QR code are both described as coming rather than live, so they should not be the reason you buy today.
The same reviews flag a few compromises. The frames are heavier than ordinary sports eyewear, photos are portrait only, and there was no prescription option at the time of review, which rules it out for many Indian buyers who wear glasses daily. The styling is also unapologetically athletic, so if you want one pair for the office and the mall, the Ray-Ban Meta range is the saner choice. Runners, cyclists and anyone who wants hands-free clips and loud, clear audio outdoors are the people this suits.
On Startbook, the Oakley Meta Vanguard at Sunglass Hut India is listed at ₹47,070 against the ₹52,300 MRP, and the Oakley Meta Vanguard OW8001 at R.Kumar shows the same price, about 10 percent under MRP. Prices differ by frame, lens and size, so confirm your exact variant and the checkout price on the store page before paying.
